When we look beyond the ceremonies prepared for the 100th Anniversary of our Republic on 29 October 29 and look at the bigger picture, the question, “Is the Republic where it should be 100 years after its founding?” is important for all of us. In this article, I will address the question, “Where are we?” through questions.

If Atatürk were alive today (and we all know he passed away 85 years ago), what would he think about the development of our current Republic? What would he want to change? I’ll leave the answer to you in this article, and I’ll simply ask some questions. (Everyone may have different opinions on these questions, but I think Atatürkists would give more or less similar answers.) I have a question for each ministry (there are many more, but to keep things short, I’ll ask each ministry my most concise question).

You can add the following sentence to each of my questions: 100 years after its founding, the Republic of Turkey…

1) Ministry of Justice:

Can we say it’s a state governed by the rule of law?

2) Ministry of Family and Social Services:

Has it prevented violence and solved poverty?

3) Ministry of Labor and Social Security:

Has it ensured the livelihood of all its citizens?

4) Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change:

Has it built sustainable environments and cities and done what’s necessary to combat climate change?

5) Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Has the country become a country respected by all countries, a darling of the United Nations, and a voice in important global decisions while fully preserving its national unity and sovereign rights?

6) Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources

Has it achieved the 100% renewable energy required to combat climate change while protecting the country’s national energy and natural resources? Furthermore, has it provided significant financial resources for the country while doing so?

7) Ministry of Youth and Sports

Have we created a youth with a bright future, where sports in all schools inform their personal development?

8) Ministry of Treasury and Finance

Do we have a treasury and finance system that generates a sustainable current account surplus and spends this solely on the support and development of the country, its citizens, and all living creatures within it?

9) Ministry of Interior

Have all criminal elements been systematically eliminated in our country, and is the crime rate decreasing steadily?

10) Ministry of Culture and Tourism

Are the necessary steps being taken to ensure the development of our culture in every sense, and to ensure sustainable tourism that protects nature while increasing tourism revenues every year?

11) Ministry of National Education

Are the necessary steps being taken to ensure the education of all citizens (not just children and youth, but everyone), which has been the biggest obstacle to our development since the early years of the Republic?

12) Ministry of National Defense

Does the country have the manpower and national technology to defend itself?

13) Ministry of Health

Does everyone in the country have free access to the best healthcare and treatment, a fundamental right?

14) Ministry of Industry and Technology

Can our own industry and technology develop without external dependence and compete globally?

15) Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry

Has the country become self-sufficient in agriculture and animal husbandry while increasing its forest area?

16) Ministry of Trade

Have issues like corruption, which pose a significant obstacle to the country’s development, been eliminated, while ensuring that trade is conducted by ethical, prudent, and competent individuals within the framework of specific principles and rules for each issue?

17) Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure

Are our infrastructure and transportation channels resilient to all kinds of disasters and built in accordance with sustainability principles and budgets?

Of course, each ministry’s question deserves at least one blog post for me. I have much to say on every topic, but to avoid being too long, I’ll leave the answers to all these questions to you, my dear readers. I will share my thoughts on all these issues when the time comes. Despite all the problems we’ve experienced, I wholeheartedly congratulate the 100th Anniversary of our Republic, founded by Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, and hope that this magnificent work will attain a more robust structure capable of making significant contributions to all humanity.
