I announced that my blog was a finalist in the Golden Spider Competition in response to question 51 of my ‘Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)’ series (http://www.serhansuzer.com/tr/sikca-sorulan-sorulara-cevaplarim-6 ) and in my article entitled “The Story of My Blog Posts” (http://www.serhansuzer.com/tr/blog-yazilarimin-oykusu ). The winners of the public vote have been announced: https://www.altinorumcek.com/Halk-Oylamasi/ . Gezmek Güzel (http://www.gezmekguzel.com ) won the ‘Individual Blog’ category. I congratulate everyone involved. I think all eight blogs that made it to the finals were very successful. It might sound a bit cliché, but just being selected was truly an achievement. I’m sharing the image below again to remind you of the finalists:
I’d like to offer some feedback to make the competition fairer. I’ll express my thoughts openly again. No offense intended. My goal isn’t to break hearts, but to offer positive feedback:
1) The definition of ‘Individual’ is contradictory
It’s unfair that ‘Gezmek Güzel’ is nominated in the ‘Individual Blog’ category. When you look here, you see a blog dedicated to travel writers. However, our category, as the name suggests, is ‘Individual Blog,’ not ‘Individuals’ Blog.’ In other words, it’s fair to pit blogs with one author against blogs with 11 (and the number is constantly growing) in the public vote.
2) Each candidate could have been in one category.
‘Gezmek Güzel’ was nominated in two categories. I think it would have been more appropriate to nominate it in the ‘Tourism and Travel’ category. Considering a restriction that allows any website or blog to compete in a single category…
3) A separate category for ‘Travel Blogs’
I searched ‘Travel Blogs’ on Google. I got 352,000 results. I have complete respect for the efforts made, but the fact that there are travel blogs everywhere and they compete with individual blogs needs to be questioned. I believe a separate category called ‘Travel Blogs’ should be created.
4) The number and method of votes should be disclosed.
It should be disclosed who received how many votes in the “People’s Vote,” and how many of these votes are real people. I strongly recommend this to the Golden Spider organization.
5) The Importance of Multifaceted Information Sharing
When you look at those with the most followers on social media, you’ll find football players and pop stars from all over the world, as well as popular culture figures like the Kardashian family and Nusret, whose popularity is often unclear. Travel writing, in my opinion, is the popular culture of blogs. Make no mistake, traveling and enjoying life are crucial; they are a key element of the Pura Vida philosophy I try to convey everywhere. However, traveling and having a good time are not enough to give meaning to life. Being useful and sharing knowledge are crucial. In addition to my travel and life writings, I strive to share with you some important technical information, blended with my experiences, as much as I can.
