Last year, I titled my last post “2020 will be different.” Rereading it, I self-critically said, “I should be careful with the titles of my year-end posts.” It truly has been a different year. Now, in this post, where I will write about my wishes for the coming year, I will emphasize the themes of health, which also means “righteousness,” and reconciliation.

Last year, when I published the article entitled 2020 will be different at https://www.serhansuzer.com/tr/2020-farkli-olacak , I certainly couldn’t have predicted what would’ve been experienced this year. Billions of people were forced to confront a scourge they had never witnessed before. On top of increasingly difficult economic conditions, we were also faced with health issues like the pandemic, which exacerbated living conditions. Unfortunately, nearly 2 million people have lost their lives so far, and the number continues to decline.

In addition to all these challenges, I was also personally subjected to lies and slander, and faced situations where my goodwill was exploited, leaving me struggling in a very difficult environment. I did my best to maintain my work ethic. Despite all the distracting and demoralizing circumstances and problems, I continued to work hard and be productive day and night. For example, in 2020, I broke my annual blog posting record by writing 50 articles (including this latest one). It’s easy to say but writing 50 articles a year is serious overtime, equivalent to almost an article every week. Ignoring the difficulties, gathering your thoughts, and then focusing and writing requires a work ethic.

Thank God, I also had my close friends and family by my side. When you’re in difficult situations, you see the picture very clearly: Who’s thinking of your best interests, who’s trying to take advantage of you, and who’s looking for an opportunity to harm you, it all comes out in the open.

The meaning of my 3 wishes

In my article entitled Analysis of my 43rd Birthday: The Light That Dispels the Darkness, which I wrote on my birthday, I briefly shared my experiences in 2020. You can read this article at https://www.serhansuzer.com/tr/43-yas-gunumun-analizi-karanligi-yok-eden-aydinlik . In this article, I explained that we did our best and continued our struggle against all the challenges we faced. When I think about 2021, three words come to mind first.

Health, well-being, consensus

I say health because, especially during the pandemic, we’ve all understood very well that nothing is worthwhile without health. Health is absolutely paramount. That’s why I plan to get vaccinated this year at the first opportunity. If I have the choice, my favorite among vaccines is the German Biontech vaccine. For some reason, it inspires confidence in me in every sense. When I examine the technique (I’m sharing a news report about the mRNA technique: https://www.bbc.com/turkce/haberler-dunya-54985322) and look at Uğur Şahin and Özlem Türeci, who developed this technique, I think this vaccine could be the definitive solution. I wish everyone the same.

I say health because I anticipate a year where I’ll once again prioritize health and focus on happiness (well-being). I’m also referring to the words reality and truth, which are other meanings of health. Finally, I hope this will be a year of reaching consensus, and that I will resolve all the issues I’m working on through consensus.

A simple and productive year

I will simplify everything I do, the civil society areas I work in, and my close circle. I want to continue being productive and helpful in an environment that truly brings me joy and peace of mind.

I also want to repay my family and friends, who have supported me through difficult times, to the extent I can in the future.

I wish all my loved ones in my life health, well-being, and peace of mind in the new year. Stay well and stay healthy.

Bonus 1: DISASTER PLATFORM

One of the most positive things I accomplished in 2020 was establishing the Disaster Platform with our colleagues working in 23 NGOs. Here’s our New Year’s message, prepared with representatives from NGOs on the Disaster Platform: https://twitter.com/AfetPlatformu/status/1344338762046840833?s=20

Bonus 2: BOSTON DYNAMICS

Everyone knows my passion for technology. I’d like to share this video with you, featuring Boston Dynamics, a company that has made significant progress in robotics, making their robots dance:

May our joy never fade.

Bonus 3: SUNNY

In the last quarter of 2020, I adopted the son of the guard dog at our wind farm. I’d like to share a charismatic picture of my dog, whom I named Sunny.

Bonus 4: ZOOM

The biggest gain for all of us in 2020 was changing some unproductive habits. The most prominent one here is that we now hold a significant portion of our meetings via video calls. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet have become the leading platforms for video calls, allowing us to significantly increase productivity. Of course, I’m putting Zoom first. It’s by far the most used platform by my inner circle, including myself. Kudos to those who created and operated this system. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Zoom. Zoom also released a thank-you video to users before the end of the year. Here’s that video:

Bonus 5: ZEYNEP BASTIK & KENAN DOĞULU

I’d like to share with you a special New Year’s Eve concert by Zeynep Bastık, one of my favorite young artists, and Kenan Doğulu, whom I’ve enjoyed listening to since my youth. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Here’s the Zeynep Bastık and Kenan Doğulu duet:
