On my last evening in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I was on business, I saw the Cirque du Soleil show Michael Jackson One, which I was curious about. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the show, which took me back to my childhood and teenage years.

Everyone knew Michael Jackson from 7 to 70, but let’s begin by summarizing his life, especially as a reminder to our younger generations (His biography below is taken from Wikipedia. For details, see https://tr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Jackson ):

Michael Joseph Jackson (b. 29 August 1958; Gary, Indiana – d. 25 June 2009; Los Angeles, California), known as the “King of Pop,” was an American singer, musician, composer, songwriter, and dancer.

Born as the seventh of nine children in the Jackson family, Michael Jackson began his musical career in 1964 at the age of six, joining his father’s band, the Jackson 5. Jackson subsequently achieved immense fame with his multi-million-selling solo albums, including Off the Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), HIStory (1995), and Invincible (2001). He rose to fame and became known as the “King of Pop.” His albums have sold over 140 million copies worldwide. His studio albums alone have sold over 125 million copies, making him the best-selling artist of all time. Thriller is the best-selling album worldwide, with over 55 million copies sold, and is also the best-selling album in the US. He has the most albums on the world’s best-selling album list, with five albums, reaching number one with Thriller. He brought a new dimension to dance with his unique style, captivating everyone. It has become a classic to see Michael Jackson’s moves in world-famous R&B music videos. Many of the dance moves in R&B videos are attributed to him, and he is considered one of the world’s best dancers. He even earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Drugs that Caused His Death

Michael Jackson was particularly in the news for several health problems and scandals in the years leading up to his death. On 25 June 2009, Michael Jackson, a father of three, suffered an illness at his home in Los Angeles and was taken to the hospital in a coma, but he could not be saved. Although cardiac arrest was suspected, an autopsy by the Los Angeles Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be propofol, a powerful anesthetic he used to treat insomnia. The statement noted that propofol and the sedative lorazepam were the primary causes of Jackson’s death, and that midazolam, diazepam, lidocaine, and ephedrine were also found in Jackson’s blood. Although the incident was suspected of being a homicide, a lawsuit was filed against Jackson’s personal physician in February 2010 for “accidental death.” This case resulted in the doctor being sentenced to prison.

Encountering the Show’s Promotion

After checking in, I decided to take a quick tour of the Delano Hotel, wondering, “Where am I staying?” As I was passing through the section connecting the Delano Hotel to Mandalay Bay, I suddenly saw a promotion for Michael Jackson’s show. It turned out I was actually standing in front of the show’s hall. After a brief tour of the hall’s foyer, I remember regretting:

“Oh Michael Jackson, if you hadn’t been so ridiculous in the final stages of your life, you would have always been a legend to us. Did all the gossip about your children ever suit you? You let all your fans down. Still, we miss your multifaceted music, your dancing, and your contributions to social work.”

Then I moved on to the other parts of the hotel. Because I personally protested Michael Jackson after the incidents involving children, I stopped listening to his music and would immediately switch off whenever he appeared on the screen. So, my reaction here was, “If these events hadn’t happened, I would have watched his show. What a shame!”

Our Conversation with the Concierge

Two days have passed since I first saw this venue. On the morning of my last day in Las Vegas, I went down to the hotel concierge and struck up a conversation with the very experienced l.

“It’s my last evening in Las Vegas. I want to see a good show here. Which one do you recommend?”

“You can see the list of shows here.”
“I’ve seen most of these. Frankly, these don’t appeal to me either. There’s not much left, it seems.”

I recommend the Michael Jackson One show here near our lobby. Everyone who watches it loves it.

Frankly, I’ve thought about this before, but I’ll be honest, after his scandals with these kids, I’ve fallen for MJ personally. Of course, if it’s true, I still can’t understand how he could be involved in these events. I feel like he betrayed all his fans.

You’re right. But you said it, and of course, if he did it. The messages there are a bit mixed.

There’s a beautiful saying in our country: “There’s no smoke without fire.”

Even so, sometimes you can ignore an artist’s private lives and only open your doors to their art. For me, there are many artists whose personalities I don’t like, but whose music I adore.

You’re right. I still have a hard time ignoring these events.

You know.

After this brief Michael Jackson chat, I went over the list a couple of times. For some reason, my heart was telling me to go to the Michael Jackson One show. I wanted to. But another voice inside me was telling me, “If he’s involved in these events, be principled and don’t even look at his face.”

After a few minutes of internal debate, I told the concierge, “Sometimes you listen to your heart, sometimes your head. This time, it seems my emotions are taking over, and I’ll silence my logic. Okay, then I want to buy a ticket to the Michael Jackson One show.”

The concierge confirmed this, saying, “Good choice,” and we moved on to choosing seats. Thankfully, he showed me the best seats in terms of value for money, I chose a seat, and made my purchase. I was ready for the evening.

By the way, if you ever find yourself in Las Vegas, you can buy tickets for this show from the official website: https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/usa/las-vegas/michael-jackson-one/buy-tickets

And the amazing show begins! I sat down, and the show started shortly after. From the moment it started, I had goosebumps. My favorite Michael Jackson songs, amazing visual acrobatics, an incredible sound system (there were speakers to the left, right, and center of our seats), a lighting system that made you feel like you were in another dimension, and the different technologies that made the show stand out. So much more! Sometimes I tapped out in my seat and did some dance moves, sometimes I clapped, and at the end of the show, I couldn’t resist anymore and stood up and danced because I was next to the aisle.

I’d like to share a song excerpt from the show to help you visualize it:

Here’s the background footage from the show:

Interesting background information

The background footage shows the following information:

Michael Jackson One is the only live stage show where you can truly experience the authentic visuals, music, and incredible voice of the true King of Pop, made possible by the participation and contributions of the Michael Jackson Estate.

The theater where the show takes place has 1,804 seats, with three speakers per seat (left, right, and center). The theater has a total of 5,412 speakers.

One part of the show features a guitar that emits nine meters of sparks (pyro).

Michael Jackson was a huge Swarovski crystal enthusiast, so the costume for the Dirty Diana segment featured over 7,000 crystals.

The stage features three elevators. These elevators ascend and descend from the basement of the stage to the stage at a speed of 1 foot per second, reaching a height of 21 feet (approximately 6.4 meters).

  • The show also uses 35 strobe lights (strobes that cycle on and off rapidly), 587 lighting fixtures, and 295 LED panels.

Can you see the preparation and effort involved? Let me share some more footage from the Michael Jackson One show, which first opened in June 2013: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxkzQ1sn_j4

I’d like to conclude with Michael Jackson’s gift to all of humanity, “We are the World.” I also recommend watching the documentary “The Greatest Night in Pop,” which tells the story of how “We are the World,” organized by 46 of pop’s greatest stars in support of Africa, was created. You can read the details at https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/what-happens-in-greatest-night-in-pop  and watch the trailer here:

Where We Want to See Michael Jackson

This song, and all the synergy it creates, puts Michael Jackson exactly where we want to see him. His magnificent voice, his incredible creativity in composing, his ability to bring people together, his stardom, and, above all, his immense efforts on behalf of humanity. Now, I’ll conclude with the most repeated and favorite part of this song:

We are the World
We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start giving
There’s a choice we’re making
We’re saving our own lives
It’s true we’ll make a better day, just you and me

We are the world (we are the world)
We are the children (we are the children)
We are the ones who’ll make a brighter day so let’s start giving (so let’s start giving)
