I believe that volunteering is a crucial element for civil society organizations. TİDER volunteers organized a wonderful event that once again proves the validity of this approach. Here are my notes on the children’s festival organized by our volunteers and the Ultimate Cunda event we will hold on 6 July with the “zero waste” principle …

We’ve put a lot of thought and effort into volunteering. I’ve emphasized in every environment I’ve been in that civil society cannot exist without volunteerism. I even wrote a blog post titled “Volunteerism: A Crucial Building Block of Development:”

We’re lucky to have a wonderful group of volunteers at TİDER. If I were to list them right now, I’d have to list at least 50 of our most valuable volunteers. So, for now, I’ll just say that İsmail, Fatoş, and Edanaz are the top volunteers we’ve seen.

A Running Festival for Children of Families in Need

I hear that İsmail’s idea, along with the contributions of all our volunteers, was to organize a running festival today for the children of families in need who benefit from our Maltepe Support Market. You can see the program below:

It was a great start to my Sunday morning. I came to the field and joined in while the kids were warming up. After the warm-up, we had our final chats before the run.

And the start was given…

Afterwards, Burcu, one of our volunteers, accidentally forgot the ribbon that the runners who were about to reach the finish line, so I came to her rescue. It was a beautiful finish.

After presenting the medals to each of the children, we all had a picnic. The best part of the picnic was that all our talented volunteers showcased their talents and brought wonderful food. All the families were delighted as we shared these delicious meals and chatted. I was especially delighted to see the children having so much fun and laughing. Then it was time for the pictures:

After handing out the chocolates I had, I said farewell to everyone and headed off for my family visit on Sunday.

A challenging ‘zero waste’ event at the triathlon

After I left, Hande, to whom I had handed over the chairmanship of the board, arrived at the site. Although we didn’t meet this time, she joined the picnickers after me and shared in joy. It doesn’t matter, we’re all together anyway, and in fact, this weekend, we’ll be organizing another wonderful event with our volunteers at the Cunda Triathlon. At this event, called Ultimate Cunda, we’ll be showcasing TİDER’s waste-prevention vision, just as we did in Bozcaada. To remind you, I’m sharing below the table of our “Waste Prevention Vision,” which laid the foundation for the “Zero Waste” movement:

To refresh your knowledge, let me share the link to the blog post I wrote about our activities in Bozcaada: https://www.serhansuzer.com/tr/tider-bozcaadada-hem-israfi-onledi-hem-de-115-aile-icin-kampanya-baslatti

It will be more difficult to organize a similar event on Cunda to the one we held on Bozcaada last year, as this time there will be three sports: cycling in the morning, swimming in the afternoon, and running in the afternoon. We will focus on preventing waste in each area. Before this event, we will provide training to the municipality, organizers, and all participants on what will be done. I’m already looking forward to this event, which we will hold on 6 July.

With all our volunteers, Adım Adım friends, and participants, we’ll be exercising, practicing responsible consumption, preventing waste, and having a blast at a fantastic event. We look forward to seeing you.
