I had one of the most interesting birthdays of my life. It coincided with new restrictions being implemented due to the second wave.
2020 was a year where we hit rock bottom for many of us. That includes me.
From my perspective, the natural disasters we experienced in 2020, the man-made disasters, the personal disasters related to my life, and humanity struggling with the most devastating pandemic of all…
In other words, this year has been a year of double disasters in every respect.
It doesn’t matter. I’m doing my best and looking to the future with hope. On one side, the Elazığ earthquake, the Van earthquake, the refugee crisis in Edirne, the flood in Giresun, the earthquake in Izmir…

İzmir Depremi’nde çalışan gönüllülerimiz sahaya çıkmaya hazırlanırken

In this photo from a meeting held immediately after the Izmir Earthquake to integrate the Disaster Platform with the public, you can see AFAD President Mehmet Güllüoğlu and his deputy Hamza Taşdelen, Ahbap President Haluk Levent, Ahbap’s President Tarık from Ahbap, and me, the Disaster Platform’s term spokesperson, wearing a TİDER t-shirt.
On the other side, the Disaster Platform, which we founded with 23 NGOs and for which I was elected and served as the first term spokesperson.
On one side, the disaster of disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the incredible hardships experienced worldwide…
On the other, TİDER, of which I am a founder, has helped over 200,000 families in total, and all our sister NGOs on the Disaster Platform have made significant contributions to this process. Most importantly, the announcements about the vaccine’s availability have been made, and we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
On the one hand, the economic crisis in our country and the world…
On the other, the right steps being taken in our country and the political change in the US.
On the other, the injustices and fraud I have personally experienced, which are very difficult to stomach…
On the other, the legal rights I have encountered against each of them.
This list goes on and on. I’ll stop here for now.
My point is that our fight against darkness continues in every field, and the good news is that progress is being made on every front. We can now look to the future with hope.
The new “sun” rising in my life
On my birthday, I rewarded myself by doing something I’d been thinking about for a long time. I adopted the son of our wind farm’s guard dog. I’ve always loved and cared for my mother, father, and friends’ dogs. This time, for the first time in my life, I had my own dog.

It’s truly a wonderful feeling to embrace this sweet, unidentified dog, whose breed is unknown, instead of buying a dog. He has a beautiful appearance and temperament.

To give you more details, I named Sunny. Her mother is a Rottweiler, but I don’t know her father, which is a shame. However, when you look at her mother and sister below, you’ll see that she has no physical similarities to either of them. Breed isn’t important to me. What matters is her animality (or rather, her humanity).

We greet Sunny and all her friends with love and health.
Finally, I’d like to share another piece of news that makes me happy. I’m proud to announce that the message I delivered to Costa Ricans during the challenging times we’ve faced during the COVID-19 pandemic has been published by the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Here’s the video:
I feel like I’ve entered a new era where I can strengthen my hopes and realize my dreams.
