Artificial Intelligence will determine the future of humans, as humans will for artificial intelligence
Lately everyone’s talking about artificial intelligence… While some stress that artificial intelligence will make life easier for us in the future, others believe it will end the continuity of mankind due to the competence these computers and robots have to learn things by themselves. In this week’s article, I want to share with you my thoughts about artificial intelligence and about a very inspirational campaign regarding happiness.
Before I start my article, I want to share with you just how I got curious about these topics. Previously in one of my blog articles, I had written about a trip my father made to Japan when I was a child, and how he brought me back a robot (Tomy the Robot) and how this robot was the best gift I had ever received in my life, and how I played with it for years. Infact I had even mentioned the comical memory my twin Baran and I had with Tomy the Robot. You can read this article from this link: http://serhansuzer.com/en/my-twin-and-tomy-the-robot.
Since then, whenever I see a robot, I can’t help myself; I try and find out more information about it. At last week’s solar energy Solarex exhibition, I had a conversation with Kaco the Robot, which is the robot of the partner we do business with, the Kaco invertors.
This is a photo we took with Kaco the Robot after the conversation:
It seems Ayse Arman has also joined the bandwagon of those who have made comments and contributions regarding artificial intelligence by interviewing Sophia the robot (instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/robot.sophia) titled “I hope there will be no discrimination to robots in the future!” which was an interesting article that you can read at this link: http://www.hurriyet.com.tr/yazarlar/ayse-arman/umarim-gelecekte-robotlara-karsi-ayrimcilik-yapilmaz-40813104. Abroad however, Elon Musk really puts a lot of effort into this topic. The founder and CEO of OpenAl, which is a non-profit artificial intelligence research company that aims to promote and develop artificial intelligence in such a way as to benefit humanity as a whole. For those who like to find out more about OpenAl, you can visit their website via this link https://openai.com/
Elon Musk tries to add value and contribution to this topic at conferences, in documentaries and any chance he is given to do so. I’d also like to share with you a short introduction documentary video which was recently made regarding this topic:
I won’t go into the technical details here. I have access to a lot of technical studies regarding AI (Artificial Intelligence), however I don’t want to distract you with these. Although in this article, I want to point attention to one detail that is just as important, the most important factor to determine artificial intelligence which is ‘mankind’…
The relationship of happiness and ‘singularity’
The concept of artificial intelligence came up recently at a meeting I attended regarding TIDER. While I was talking about my thoughts regarding the topic, Miss Handan mentioned the campaign regarding Mo Gawdat and how he recently left Google. You can find the campaign video at this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7BkixWHG8o
This campaign mentions that mankind will reach ‘singularity’ in terms of artificial intelligence, and after one point in time, they will develop in such ways that we never imagined, and eventually artificial intelligence machines will surpass human intelligence. Mo says that anything can happen once we reach ‘Singularity’. Those machines can solve every problem that we ever faced, or they can decide that we are the problem and get rid of us. How are those machines learning, they’re looking at all of the knowledge that’s out there in the world and building patterns from them just like an 18 month old baby, that’s the way computers are learning today, we basically write algorithms that allow computers to understand those patterns, and get them to try and through pattern recognition, through observations, they learn. He said when they look at our world; they are observing a world full of greed, disregard for other species and violence. He says that the problem is unhappiness and that one of every 4 people in the world today are clinically depressed, teen suicide is at all-time high, and that although our life expectancy is better, our quality of life is better, unhappiness is at a record high. Finally, he mentions that his personal aim is to make a billion people happy and how he will achieve this is by:
1. Your happiness is your priority
2. Invest in your happiness
3. Share it
He says by sharing this you can make other people happy which creates a chain effect. He says he is leaving Google and committing the rest of his life and resources to this mission and encourages everyone else to do so. So I’d like to share this with you too; you can find the details of the ‘one billion happy’ at this link: https://www.onebillionhappy.org/
With this boost of happiness, I’d like to also share the video of Pharrell Williams’ song that I love the most ‘Happy’ - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM
The importance of good intention
Agreeing with Mo, I’d also like to share with you the things I expressed to Miss Handan that day.
Mo mentions that once you reach singularity, it’s important to create a happy and positive environment. I on the other hand, would like to reach out to those masterminds that will be designing the brains of artificial intelligence before we reach singularity. The characters of people who are defined as experts in their field will shape ‘singularity’ and the future of artificial intelligence.
People who have bad intentions and that are only after strength and power will design artificial intelligence machines in an egotistical way. On the other hand, the developers who have good intentions and good hearts will design artificial intelligence in the right way and even go out of their way to make it the best. And in order to avoid going out of control, they will add measures to their functions and models to remove these kinds of dangers.
For this reason and for the sake of the future of mankind, these developers need to be the best, most capable, talented and creative, with a good heart, good intention and have a positive mind frame.
Today, there are many people we come across who do bad in the path of good, manipulate others and ruin lives with their bad intentions. Many of these bad people can generally hide this side of themselves too. Their true characters are only exposed only in extraordinary situations. For myself, when I confirm and find who these people are, I cannot forgive. I do whatever I can in those situations to contest and combat against them.
Education for educators
I’d also like to mention another topic here. Some people are bad natured from birth. There’s nothing we can do for them. Some however are bought to that point at some stage of their life. Infact they can experience these situations as babies or as a child. There is no other bad situation than a child, who has a brain like a sponge, to observe and pick up on malignancies as can artificial intelligence, which can affect their DNA. This is the topic we need to focus on entirely. At the end of the day, people are like a product of coding. We need to ensure that babies are born into a solid foundation so we can shape them from a very young age. And this all depends on the education of the educators. When I mean educators, I don’t only mean teachers. A child’s first educators are their mother and father. Our only intention in life should be to ensure the educators are raising their children in the best possible way, especially from an intelligence perspective in order to have a healthy and happy human race.
If the population of the world today is 7 billion, imagine if it were 7 billion good and happy people. We all know that this is impossible because there are many people who have bad characters. By the way, the saying that “everyone is 100% bad or 100% good” is not correct. The percentage of good and bad in everyone differs. We can determine a good person by saying “their good side is a lot more dominant”. The thing we need to focus on is the power that is controlling mankind, the people with money or the technologies that will shape mankind and ensure it’s made with the best intention, by people with good hearts and those that are positive and beneficial. We need to keep up this fight for the generations to come. If success is achieved in mankind and if these successful generations follow one another, I guarantee that we won’t have any problems with artificial intelligence. We can ensure that artificial intelligence will serve mankind in the best possible way. I will make sure that throughout my life, I will do whatever I can and contribute however I can to make this one of my lifelong goals.
Happy 23rd April National Sovereignty and Children's Day
In the name of raising happy and healthy generations, the founder of Turkey’s Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk took the most important steps to give this day meaning and importance which I’d like to underline. On the 98th year of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey anniversary, we pay tribute and our respects to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and congratulate all the children on the National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
Let’s not forget, the intelligent and smart children of our country will take place in shaping of our future with artificial intelligence. It is our duty and obligation to raise them to be the best they can be.
Once again “Pura Vida”
To speak for myself, I do a lot of things I can for the education of children. I speak at universities as much as I can. I would like to share the good news now of all the things I will take part in, in the future, in the name of education.
I also feel much honored to be the representative of Turkey and honorary consulate for Costa Rica. I am trying to explain the “Pura Vida” philosophy of Costa Rica to everyone. I had written an article about this before, which you can find on my blog titled “Pura Vida or endowing life with meaning” on my website which has the same slogan on the main page which remains unchanged. Here is the link for the article: http://serhansuzer.com/en/pura-vida-or-endowing-life-with-meaning
I will write my next article about how the people of Costa Rica make it their main aim to look at life with a positive outlook and how they live their life in happiness.
Signing off with the one hope that good people will one day help strengthen the world, till then take care…
